Stylish MOM boots

I know boot season is just about over, but nows a good time to buy them to catch the sale prices. I wanted to show you my favorite boots that are perfect for moms, but still so cute and stylish. I've completely given up on heels these days. Heels look so cute, but I just never want to wear them. It's kind of hard to walk when lugging around kids in heels. So these are perfect because they are flat but still VERY cute with a little extra detail to them. So comfy too. They are normally $59 but now on sale for $39. I got them from Journey's and I think they are the perfect MOM boots.

I also purchased these in the fall and just LOVE them because they are so cute, but still have a little heel. They're Naughty Monkeys, and I got them at Nordstrom .
They don't seem to be on sale yet, but probably will be soon.

Multitasking IS a Talent

Time....sigh..... never enough in a day. How do we as moms, find the time for hobbies among all the other daily demands?

Well, first off, since my blog is about BALANCE, I thought I would write a little about how I TRY to balance everything I want to do, on top of all the things I NEED to do. I don't claim to have the answers, but all I know is that it's a lifelong quest. The good thing, is that I'm becoming more aware of when I'm NOT in balance. Sometimes I get a little too excited about something, for example, when I have an idea of what I want to blog about, or when I begin making one of my movies, it's hard for me to stop until it's finished. I tend to focus all my attention on that, and suddenly realize that I'm neglecting the IMPORTANT things. So, once I recognize it, then I can quickly make a change and make up for the things I failed to attend to, for example the house. All I have to do is go ONE day without picking up, and this is what my house turns into.

I know all you moms can relate :) I'm just really passionate about staying in balance and know how easy it is to fall off the wagon and get lost. That's when those unsettled feelings come and you realize somethings off. LACK of balance is always the case. Mind Body Soul, it's that simple right? Not really, there are many subcategories that come with each one of those. I don't even want to think about them otherwise I get overwhelmed. Inhale…..breathe…….relax

We're women, multitasking is in our blood. We're good at killing 2 birds with one stone, or probably more like 3 or 4 :). Like right now, I'm at the gym, on the treadmill, and writing this post at the same time. Gotta love all these cool gadgets we have these days that makes multitasking even easier. Pretty soon we'll be killing huge flocks of birds with just one tiny pebble.

I find that a lot of my ideas come to me at night as I'm lying in bed, or when I'm at the gym. Peace and quiet, without any interruptions. So it's nice to be able to email myself with the ideas that pop into my head.

This blog really accomplishes a lot for me, so that's how I can justify spending the time on it. I feel like I'm fulfilling an important part of life, which is, recording significant events, in other words, this takes the place of journaling :) I've decided that it's much more fun sharing my journal now, rather than after I die, like journals are usually intended. I love the fact that you can turn your blog into a printed book. No more scrap booking for me, I'm not passionate enough about it. I'd rather just print it all off, and spend the time on other things. So anyway, other reasons for my blog is because it's become a hobby for me, something I really enjoy, and we should ALL have something that we can do as part of our “ME TIME”, aside from all the mommy stuff. It's easy to lose yourself if you’re not working on or toward something. Also, this has been a fun way for me to connect with fellow mommies.

I have a few weekly and monthly goals I put together to help me balance everything.

  • Blog 3 times a week. I figured that was a good balanced amount.
  • Make nice dinners at least 4 times a week.
  • Spend more time teaching my daughter to help pick up around the house. I tend to just do it myself, which isn't teaching her anything and only leaves more work for me to do.
  • Read or listen to something spiritual once a day. Even if it's just one paragraph.
  • Spend special quality time with my kids multiple times a day. My daughter and I play a game we call, CLEAN AND PLAY. The timer has become my new friend. I tell her when the timer goes off, then it's time for mommy to do mommy stuff, like dishes, laundry, ect. I set the timer for everything now, and I seem to get a lot done that way. Thirty minutes here, thirty minutes there keeps me going and focused on what needs to be done, also allowing time to rest and just play with my kids.
  • Work out 4 times a week. I use to try to do 6 or 7, but realized that it's rough trying to fit everything into one week when I do that.
  • Read one chapter of a book each day. I've found this to be very doable for me. I used to have a goal to read one book in a week, ha, that idea failed miserably. What was I thinking?
  • Weekly date night. My favorite day of the week :) It's so fun, and greatly needed at the end of the week.
  • I like to have a babysitter come once a week to help me get caught up on things, run errands or just have a little "ME TIME".
  • Girls Night Out once a month. It's always good to get together with your gal pals regularly for some good old fashion GIRL TALK!

Laser Hair Removal

Okay, you all now that I'm a fan of laser hair removal. For those of you who live in Utah, you don't want to pass up this deal. I've done my research on all the different laser center's and have found THE best price. I've been going to Elase Medical Spa's for like 4 years now, in between having babies and working on different areas of my body. Now they have come up with such an affordable idea. They have this new membership program. You get a membership for $49, and you choose the area you want to do, like for example, if you want to do just underarm, it's only $29 a month for 18 months. Each area is different of course, but you can get your entire body done for $198 a month, for 2 years. My sister is in the middle of this package, and she just loves how her whole body is so smooth even her arms, and she only shaves like once a week or every 2 weeks. I didn't get this package because I'm almost done with all the areas I wanted, just working on underarms right now, and getting touch up treatments here and there. I wouldn't say that the hair removal is completely permanent, but I get a touch up treatment about every 6 months, and that's about all I need. So, I still think it's worth it :)
If you go to this website www.elase.com/vip then enter this promo code: 828514 you can receive a $25 credit, then someone will contact you to get you scheduled.
They have 3 locations, Draper, Sugar House, and Orem. There are also some in Florida and California, I'm not sure exactly where, but that's what they told me :)

"Bachelor's most shocking"

Doesn't it seem like every season of the Bachelor, they're always saying, "you don't want to miss the most shocking episode in Bachelor history"? lol, I honestly don't believe that this is the way to find true love, but I'm still a pretty big fan. There's just something so entertaining and even comical about watching a bunch of women compete for what they say is, "their future husband". The success rate of these couples actually staying together is about 2%. But I'm a sucker for reality TV, and just love watching the drama:) The other night I had a GNI (girls night in), at my house. We made some crepes and watched the Bachelor together. It was much more fun watching it with some girl friends, rather than trying to force my husband into watching it with me.

For the girls who couldn't make it, we missed you! And if there are any of you who live in Utah and want to join us for the next GNI, or GNO, then let me know and I'll be sure to add you to the evite :) I think it should be a rule that all mom's HAVE to have a GNO at least once a month, it's healthy :)
I added a little pole to the left here, just for fun, wanted to see which show is the most popular among my fellow bloggers or blog readers :) So click on your favorite show.

Here is the highlight of last weeks show.

My American Idol Moment

I'm always amazed with all those people trying out for American Idol, with the possibility of being scrutinized by the entire world. How nerve racking that must be. I admire their courage and couldn't imagine anything more difficult.
As little girls, we grow up watching singing princesses living fairy tale lives. We dream of our weddings and living our own fairy tale one day. I've always LOVED music and I love singing, although it's not one of my talents. I love listening to the lyrics of songs and applying them to my life. There's nothing better than finding a song that describes how you're feeling in every way. I would love to write a few songs one day, as a way of articulating myself ( I better add that to my life list ). I am a true believer that we all have special talents. Some have been blessed with an incredible voice, and others......well, not so much. But I don't think that should hold us back from singing when you want, or expressing ourselves through song. I always dreamed of singing a love song to my husband on our wedding day. I imagined I would write a song of my own, or find the perfect song with the right words to express how I felt. So, when that day finally came, I wasn't about to give up on that dream. I didn't exactly have much time to write my own song, since we only dated for 2 weeks, and were engaged for 3 months before getting married. So instead I found the ultimate song to convey how I felt about the love of my life.

One of the biggest things I've struggled with in life, is caring too much what other people think. It has held me back in some ways and kept me from doing what I really wanted at times. I am determined to overcome it, and the only way to overcome it, is to keep fulfilling my passions and dreams without second thought of what others may think. That is really hard for me, but I'm committed to not letting that hold me back.

Think about all the things you ever wanted to do, BUT DIDN'T, for fear of what others would say.

My wedding day was all about Sean and I, and I wanted to do something extra special that came from the heart. I've put together a short clip to show you a little of what that day was like for me.

That Time Of The Month

This was me earlier today, and my husband would attest to that. Oh the joys of being a women. There is a certain time of the month when my husband has to be extra careful around me, or better said, walk on eggshells. It seems like once a month we suddenly begin this reoccurring argument that never deemed to be solved. I say what I'm feeling, possibly in a not so nice way, I said POSSIBLY! So, anyway, he say's I don't mean what I'm saying and that I'm just letting my hormones get the best of me. At that point I'm in outrage which then begins the downward spiral that sets the pity part in motion. You don't love me, you never listen, you don't appreciate EVERY thing I do, I'm so overwhelmed, my skin is breaking out, I feel fat, did I mention EVERYTHING I do, and that you don't appreciate me.

Just the other month, I must have said something that triggered his awareness of the date, maybe something along the lines of, I want to punch you in the face, I don't know, can't remember, but of course I was calm and composed (according to me of course ). I then notice he's counting on his fingers and looks as though he's figuring a math problem in his head. Just then, he bolts out the door, sends me a text that say's, "be back in a minute, I'm on an emergency run". Soon after he's rushing into the bedroom with an arm full of goodies (chocolate, diet Coke or Kombucha, candy, and a chick-flick). He throws them in front of me and high tails it out the room with a scared look on his face, like I am a wild beast ready to attack. So, yes, he's learning... BE AFRAID, be VERY afraid.

I've learned something too, one way to make him the happiest husband in the world, is to simply admit that I'm emotional. That's all! It's like I've just told him that he's right, has always been right, and WILL always be right (words that men dream of). It brings him such satisfaction that it's almost sickening. You'd think I'd be a good wife, and just make him happy by plainly saying, "I'm emotional". NOPE not me, I will fight it to the death. I will ramble off every possible excuse for my actions, but saying the word, it's torture! I'll do or say anything BUT that.

Check out this video below. It was originally broadcasted on Periscope. My sister and I talk about some women options for that time of month. If you're a man, you might not want to watch this. I warned you!

I'm not stubborn at all.

Salads for the week

For those of you who are trying to eat healthier for the New Year, so in other words, everyone :) I wanted to share with you how I keep my calories down without spending a lot of money, or investing a lot of time. First of all, as you all know, I have my usual Isagenix protein shake every morning, which I LOVE. Then for lunch, try to have salads as much as possible. I don't like the store bought bags of salad, they have a weird taste to them, and seem to go bad really fast. I like everything fresh, and I know it's hard to prepare a fresh salad everyday as busy as we all are.

So what I do, is chop all the veggies the day I buy them, which saves time throughout the rest of the week. I love lots of veggies on my salad, iceberg lettuce I know isn't the healthiest, but I like how it's crispier. The greener, the better, so I get the nice green lettuce to add to it, plus add spinach. I also buy the already chopped carrots, so that makes it a little easier, and carrots, last forever. I love purple cabbage so I chop up a bunch of this to sprinkle over the top. Avocado's are yummy, and full of protien.

My sister taught me to put a dry papertowell in with the lettuce and it helps it to stay more fresh. It really works too!

Now I have a fresh salad I can easily through together, and will last me the whole week!

My Mission in Germany

Yesterday I decided to read a little bit out of my missionary journal to refresh my memory of all the important lessons I learned while I was there. I've heard that a mission teaches you 15 years worth of lessons all compacted into 18 months-2 years. And boy do I believe it! My mission was the hardest thing I've ever done, but of course wouldn't change a thing about it. What it has given me, is priceless.

As I was reading, I came across one, of the many entries, that talked about my struggles out there lol. I had written down parts of this Ensign talk that really spoke to my heart at the time. I want to share it with you because it is SO inspirational.

Be Not Afraid
by President James E. Faust

"I learned the lesson that life's burdens don't seem to be so great if we don't allow ourselves to get paralyzed into a stupor of inactivity by our sorrow and pain."

He goes on to talk about the children's classic The Secret Garden, author Frances Hodgson Burnett. The author writes this commentary:

"So long as Colin shut himself up in his room and thought only of his fears and weakness and his detestation of people who looked at him and reflected hourly on humps and early death, he was a hysterical half-crazy little hypochondriac who knew nothing of the sunshine and the spring and also did not know that he could get well and could stand upon his feet if he tried to do it. When new beautiful thoughts began to push out the old hideous ones, life began to come back to him, his blood ran healthier through his veins and strength poured into him like a flood...Much more surprising things can happen to any one who, when a disagreeable or discouraged thought comes into his mind, just has sense to remember in time to push it out by putting in an agreeable determinedly courageous one. Two things cannot be in one place. 'Where you tend a rose, my lad, a thistle cannot grow.' "

Sometimes we allow ourselves to fall into this trap of self pity and doubt, and forget about the huge potential we really have. Most of us don't even know what we are capable of, and sadly may never know. It takes great strength to rise above our burdens.

The beginning of my mission was especially rough for me. I couldn't speak the language yet, so of course my companion ended up doing most of the talking. During our appointments I'd be struggling to stay awake, partly because of boredom, having no clue what was being said, and also dealing with the affects of jet lag. I was completely exhausted, homesick, and feeling inadequate in every way. It took a little time, and a lot of patience before I began feeling like I knew what I was doing, and could say what I wanted to say.

In my first city, I had the opportunity of participating in the beginning stages of a women's conversion. When I say participating, I mean just being there, with a smile on my face. Due to the language barrier, I really had no part in it at all :) Anyway, she ended up getting baptised a few months after I left the city. And now 7 years later, I receive an email from her, thanking me for serving a mission, and telling me how happy she is. Her conversion has lead to many wonderful blessings. She has fulfilled numerous callings in the church, taken out her own endowments in the temple, her daughter is now a member (after years of investigating the church), and was recently sealed in the temple to an amazing young man.
I don't believe I personally had any part in this. I didn't say much, didn't do much, was just simply there, and for that I am most grateful. I didn't see a whole lot of lives being changed while I was there, and sometimes wondered why I had come in the first place.
Two main things I learned on my mission, was;

#1- My mission was mostly for me. To strengthen my testimony, to go through the ups and downs, and to prepare me for the life I was about to lead. Every lesson I learned out there applies to my life now in so many ways.

#2- We may never know of the lives we've touched or the people we inspired or helped along the way. All we can do is be mindful of others who may be in need of encouragement, kind words or even a little love. We may be an answer to someone's prayers without even doing much but simply being there with a smile on our face. We should lift one another, rather than tear them down because of jealousy. Be grateful for our OWN individual talents, and have faith that we too, have something extraordinary to offer. Push out those negative thoughts, enjoy the sunshine, stand up on our feet, and do it!

Love the bread in Germany :) The chocolate too, that's probably why I put on the pounds. Or it could have been crepes with Nutella every night for dinner.

Thick Hair

Long thick hair, something I've always wanted but unfortunately was not blessed with. I have to go to extreme measures to get that kind of hair. I try to go for the natural look, like for example, I don't color my hair at all, it's totally natural, lol. Yeah, in my dreams :) There is so much that goes into being blonde, and trust me, I've tried to go back to my natural color, and even colored my hair dark brown. It was not a pretty sight, in my opinion. I just felt so drab. I love being blonde, but do hate the maintenance that comes along with it. I like it really light, and of course, the lighter you go, the more your roots stand out, so I usually end up wearing hats every day the last couple of weeks before I get my hair done again (those headbands I mentioned before are great for covering up dark roots). So first you have the hideous roots, then of course you have to deal with the constant breakage and flyaways. So, as my hair gets lighter and lighter, it also gets thinner and thinner. It's a lose lose in my opinion. I hate my natural color, but I hate the damage bleach brings to my hair. One of these days I'm just going to shave off my hair like Brittany Spears, and just wear wigs. I would be so excited if this became a trend. Think about it, you could have any hair color or style you want in minutes. It would be awesome! What do you say we all do this together, and start the trend ourselves :)
So, anyway, I've been in a constant search for ways I can stay blonde, but still have thick healthy hair. It's been tough, but I've come up with a few solutions, and would like to share with you what I've learned over the years.

Extentions are always good :) but can also be VERY expensive, so I figured out how to apply them myself. Here is a step by step guide to adding a few extra strands. Although, I wouldn't exactly recommend doing this all over your head. A little bit of your own hair comes out along with each piece, as they tend to slide out after a couple of months.

I bought this little kit on this website, but have found that you can get everything cheaper on ebay. Search for Micro Ring Link Hair Extensions Pliers Needle Tools Set, then you'll need to search for microlinks, then of course, the hair. And you DO want to use real human hair, and not synthetic hair. I've ordered from so many different vendors and have decided that the quality of hair you recieve is all luck. Sometimes you get a good batch, and sometimes you get a bad one. But really, you can find it so cheap on ebay, so it's not that big of a deal if the hair only lasts a couple of months. If you're lucky and get a good batch, the hair can last up to a year or longer.
First, you put the bead onto the needle
Then hook it onto a little strand of hair, close the latch on the needle, then slide the bead over and onto the hair.
The hair is hooked in the needle, so the strand of hair should slide right out.
Then you put the shoelace tip into the bead (search for prebonded extensions on ebay when purchasing the hair).
Then just clamp the bead, and you're done. You'll of course need to have a hair dresser cut the extensions to blend them, or you can attempt to do it yourself :)

Another option are the clip ins. These are great, but very uncomfortable, so usually when I wear them, I can't wait to get them out. Looks great though, and does NO damage to the hair.

Here is a picture of my hair with all the clips in. They come in all different sizes, so you can put the bigger pieces in the back, and the smaller ones in front.

Another option for extensions is getting a whole weft sewn into your hair. I think this is actually THE best way to go. I've had them before and loved them. Two of my friends do this kind, and do such a great job at a very affordable rate. Rachelle is one, and Ashlie is the other. You can find them both on facebook (just click on their names).

This is the best stuff for flyaways

Pureology Super Smooth Smoothing Elixir 2oz

Only $14 on this website

I'm trying this new stuff right now called Ovation Hair. It's supposed to make your hair grow longer and thicker. So, I'll keep you posted on weather or not it's worth your money :) I just started it this week, so we'll see. One thing I learned from their website, is that it's good to wrap your head with a silky scarf at night. This helps protect your hair and keeps it shiny and hydrated.

I lost a lot of hair after giving birth (which is very common after delivery), and a friend of mine told me that taking silica in liquid form really helps stimulate hair growth. I've been taking this Bone Formula (it's not liquid, but I think it's been helping)

My hair dresser is the best! So, if you think you need a new hair stylist, then call her for sure. She does an amazing job with my hair. She can also make you a set of clip in extensions if you ever want them.

Funny Comic about Health

Here is another great website, these are all stories of people who did this cleansing program.

Sledding

We enjoyed a nice time up at our cabin. We went sledding almost every day. Lily absolutely loved it! This was also a great way to get a work out in while spending some time with my family. Going up that hill each time was exhausting, but was great cardio for the day.

This headband is my new favorite accessory. I have one in almost every color.
If you live in Utah then I know you can find these in almost any boutique, and also at the Fashion Place mall. I did find a website for them, and it looks like they are even a little cheaper than what I got them for. So I would recommend just getting them off this website.

New Years Resolutions!!!

I just love this time of year. I thoroughly enjoy setting goals and looking back at my past resolutions to see how I did. Making and achieving goals motivates me to work harder, and provides such a great sense of accomplishment. "Intent+Mechanism=result"(-Klemmer). I'm ultra sensitive about fulfilling aspirations and dreams. Growing up I didn't see a lot of following through. Intensions were there, but void of any action, therefore, never saw results. So I think that has made me try even harder to DO what I say I'm going to do, and not just SAY it. I appreciate this about my husband, I think that is one thing that really drew me to him. He's the kind of person who reaches his goals. His ambition and motivation to succeed in life, really means a lot to me. He and I were talking about this the other night, and he quoted the best scripture, and totally applies to the way I feel. “Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him; but rather give thanks unto God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been.” (Morm. 9:31.) I love this scripture! It's very hard not to judge others, or even our own parents for that matter. This scripture sheds a little light on the subject, and teaches us to appreciate the imperfections of others a little more, because they are opportunities for us to learn.
I've done a little research in formulating my plans for 2010, in hopes to get inspired. I wanted to share what I came across. Achieving goals is all about having faith, believing in yourself enough to know that it's possible. "You display in life, what you are, because of what you think...To think, is to create"(Klemmer).
"What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?" -Robert Schuler
From the conference talk, Do It Now by Donald L. Holstrom, "We delay full spiritual involvement because of laziness, fear, rationalization, or lack of faith. We convince ourselves that someday I'm going to do it. However, for many, someday never comes, and even for others who eventually do make a change, there is an irretrievable loss of progress, and surely regression. Many of us want the simple way, the process that will not require serious work & sacrifice. Procrastination may seem the easy way, as it momentarily removes the effort required to accomplish something of value. Ironically in time, procrastination produces a huge burden, laced with guilt, and a hollow lack of satisfaction."
President Spencer W. Kimball said, "One of the most serious human defects in all ages, is procrastination, and unwillingness to accept personal responsibility ."
I'm feeling motivated now to "DO IT NOW", try a little harder, and reach a little higher. This year is going to be the best one yet!!!
I'd love to hear some of your goals for this year, please share :)
